Letters on Demonology and Witchcraft
Letters on Demonology and Witchcraft by Sir Walter Scott is a little-known treasure trove of information about Celtic faeries, folklore, witchcraft and demonology.
In this complex and slightly archaic series of letters to his son-in-law, John Gibson Lockart, Scott talks about the folklore, beliefs and customs in Celtic countries.
Though Scott attempted scientific skepticism as he described these paranormal stories and his own odd experiences, the reader begins to feel that — to borrow from Shakespeare — the author “doth protest too much.”
Though this book is not easy to read, and was not well organized as a text, the information in it is vital for all scholars of Celtic folklore, witchcraft, demonology and faerie studies.
